The importance of Repairing 

One basic principle in a life with lower footprint is not only paying attention to greenhouse effect, but also what pollutes and require lots of resources. When we recycle we give life to a new product or we reuse (a portion) of the resources of a product. For example, when paper is recycled we can use things made out of paper without need to cut trees to create new paper. With plastic is the same, if we recycle it, new things will be done made out of that plastic, if we do not recycle plastic and buy new things made of non-recyclable plastic it means it was required lot of oil exploitation - which is highly pollutant for all ecosystems. [We should avoid plastic as much as we can]

While repairing things, it's certified that those things can last longer without being thrown to landfills, where they laid for hundreds or maybe thousands of years.

Most of the times the repairing process becomes difficult because most of Industries make things in a way that are hard to recover, in that way, they are the problem for the current disposable society, being responsible for causing a huge amount of waste worldwide.

Suggestion: One day you need to buy something, make sure the materials can be fixed in case of broken and/or if it can be recycled. In case the broken thing cannot be fixed neither recyclable, try to think in ways of converting it into other usable thing.

In this Blog I give some examples of things I Re-create, but until now I didn't say what I Repaired. Now I will give some examples:

when something unstitch I stitch it. Something that broke I try to glue it; what I cannot repair I ask somebody specialized to fix it.

I noticed that regarding my shoes most all of them has their midsoles not removable. That makes a hard situation to me to try to fix them.

Now some cases of Shoe Repairing I made:

REPAIR NR. 1

I lived one full year in Finland and I only brought with me 3 pair of shoes: snow shoes; rain shoes and a pair of All Stars. Makes logic that All Stars are the most suitable shoes for warm days during spring and summer, the problem was they were damaged in the midsole and  are not easily removable. It was unconfortable to walk. I found out some midsoles I could use on top of the older ones, but later I discovered a shoe restorer that could remove the bad ones and replace with some sportive midsoles. After repairing the midsole I painted the fabric by myself with special ink for fabric. I first used the same colour but it looked very old so I updated to red colour, so it become more fresh, looking like new.

I needed the shoes available and also I am against disposing things and buying new ones without given it a second life. Even if I wanted to donate it, it probably would end up in the trash because it doesn't look perfectly new...so I kept it and my reborn old all start will stay with me for a couple years more.

Suggestion: It is important not using the same clothes or shoes all the time because it get more exposed to damage.

With so much use, the rubber of my slipper have defrayed causing disconfort. I decided to remove the rubber and cute some old fabric with the shape of the midsole and than I sew it  by hand in the sole. It was easy, practical and worked perfectly since is only to be inside home and can be easily washable.

The rubber is not recyclable so I kept it. I will not do anything with it until I don't find a solution for that trash.

A importância de Reparar

Um dos princípios de uma vida com pouco impacto ambiental é não só ter em atenção tudo o que produz efeitos de estufa, mas também o que poluí e requer demasiados recursos. Ao reciclarmos estamos a dar vida a um produto e reutilizar maioria ou parte dos recursos usados num produto. Por exemplo, um papel ao ser reciclado permite-se reutilizar o mesmo material para produzir papel, sem ter a necessidade de abater ou explorar árvores para criar mais matéria prima. O mesmo acontece para o plástico, se reciclarmos plástico, novas coisas podem ser feitas desse mesmo plástico, se não reciclarmos e comprarmos coisas feitas de plástico não reciclado, significa que foi requerida exploração petrolífera para se produzir novo plástico – o que é extremamente poluente para diversos ecossistemas. [Devemos evitar o plástico o máximo possível].

Em relação à reparação de produtos, certifica-se que esses mesmos podem durar mais tempo sem terem de ser descartados para as lixeiras, onde ficarão centenas ou mesmo milhares de anos até se decomporem; Muitas vezes o processo de reparação torna-se difícil uma vez que a grande maioria das indústrias faz os produtos de forma a serem irreparáveis, incentivando, por isso a uma grande quantidade de lixo gerado a nível mundial.

Sugestão: Num dia que tenham de obter algo de novo, certifiquem-se que esse material pode ser arranjado, no caso de estar danificado, ou que possa ser total ou parcialmente reciclado. No caso de não poderem reciclar o material, tentem ver se isso pode ser convertido noutra coisa.

Neste blog dou exemplos de coisas que Recriei, mas até agora pouco falei de algo que reparei.

Vou dar exemplos de algo que reparo: quando algo se descose eu coso; quando algo que se parte, mesmo em pequenas peças, tento colar com colas fortes; O que não consigo reparar peço para arranjar.

Um caso que reparei em relação ao meu calçado é que muitas palmilhas não são removíveis. O que torna difícil eu poder compor por mim mesma. :/

REPARAÇÃO Nº 1
Durante um ano vivi na Finlândia e comigo trouxe apenas 3 pares de calçado: umas botas de neve, umas de chuva e umas ALL STAR. Visto pela lógica, as ALL STAR eram as únicas que poderia usar em dias quentes; de tanto as usar a palmilha estragou-se e ainda por cima não eram removíveis. No início comprei uma pequena palmilha removível que dava para colocar por cima da outra, mas como havia um restaurador de sapatos perto de onde vivia, decidi ir lá para ver se era possível remover-me a palmilha velha e colocar uma nova em condições e assim foi. Contudo, além de trocar a palmilha decidi renovar a cor com tinta para tecido, uma vez que as sapatilhas estavam muito desgastadas: Inicialmente pintei da mesma cor e depois pintei de vermelho, dando um aspecto mais fresco. Como sou contra o deitar fora e comprar coisas novas desnecessariamente, sabia que, por mais que quisesses doar essas sapatilhas, elas muito provavelmente iriam parar ao lixo por não serem totalmente novas, portanto faço questão de continuar com elas durante muitos mais anos.

Sugestão: é importante não andar muitas vezes com a mesma roupa ou calçado porque tem maior risco de desgaste.

REPARAÇÃO Nº2
Com bastante uso, umas pantufas começaram a desgastar-se na sola causando muito desconforto. Decidi remover a borracha a sola e com tecido velho recortei na forma da palmilha e cosi por baixo manualmente. Como servem para andar para casa, funcionam para o efeito e são facilmente laváveis! Em relação à borracha, guardei-a pois como não é reciclável, não depositarei em aterro até encontrar uma solução.
